The Design Process
Each week, our team held a remote meeting call to work on one, or occasionally multiple, design projects. Together, we would brainstorm and work through different sketches, pointing out what aspects of each design we liked and what aspects we thought needed to be changed for the design to look its best. Following the meeting, we’d take this feedback and work independently throughout the week to tweak or completely overhaul our designs before the next meeting.
The collaboration and constant passing of files back and forth quickly taught me that I needed to have good naming conventions and an organizational system, so that none of the design elements got lost before the final print stage. It was also my first chance to work remotely, and I had to utilize a lot of self-discipline and motivation to stay on track with what needed to be done each week. We worked under relatively short deadlines, so staying on the timeline was crucial to ensure each magazine issue could be put out for pre-order to the public on time and sent to print to fulfill the promised shipping dates.
